Returned and looking ahead!

Many thanks to all who attended! Keep bloggin here if you have updates to your life or about Peace Corps Events. Also check MorePeaceCorps.org for some of the exciting things returned peace corps are involved in. Ted and I want to thank you for such a great time!

Dear Sandra,Namaste! My name is Rajeev Goyal (Nepal 01-03). As the National Coordinator of the MorePeaceCorps.org Campaign, I am reaching out to members of the Peace Corps community across Ohio to ask you host a MorePeaceCorps.org House Party! With 84 parties confirmed in 30 states and 9 countries, including parties in Kabul, Micronesia, Jakarta, Taiwan, Barcelona, and Santiago, the MorePeaceCorps 100 House Parties effort is becoming a global phenomenon!By registering today to host a September 6th House Party, you can put us over the top! It's very easy and fun to do. You control whether your party is a private affair or a public event. If you would like, we can even help publicize to local RPCVs. Anyone inspired by the mission should feel welcome to host or attend these parties - not just former volunteers. The idea is to have fun, build awareness and increase support for the MorePeaceCorps.org Campaign!
To sign up for hosting a party or to learn more, kindly send an email to House Party Coordinator, May Wilkerson at maywilkerson@morepeacecorps.org.
To learn more about 100 House Parties and to download a handy toolkit for hosting, follow this link.
To those of you who have already signed up to host, thank you!
If you are curious as to whether or not a party has been scheduled in your area, May can let you know, though we urge people hosting public parties to sign up for our forum and post their parties there. If you haven't done so already, please sign up for the campaign at www.morepeacecorps.org, which will ensure that you receive breaking news and our monthly color, custom designed e-newsletter.MorePeaceCorps is a grassroots campaign which means we rely on our supporters to take action and make a difference. Thank you so much for your support!Best,Rajeev GoyalNepal 01-03National Coordinator, MorePeaceCorps Campaign917.438.4626 T516.984.7138 Crajeev@morepeacecorps.orgDid You Know?
MorePeaceCorps.org Campaign is a grassroots campaign launched in 2008 by the National Peace Corps Association and supported by M+R Strategic Services.
The campaign goal is to build a bigger, better and bolder Peace Corps – one that is doubled in budget and the number of volunteers by 2011, the 50th anniversary of the founding of Peace Corps. We want a Peace Corps operating with a renewed vigor and expanded opportunities to serve.
Currently, the Peace Corps sends out just 4,000 volunteers per year. This is half the number of four decades ago.
Demand for volunteers exceeds supply. More than 20 countries have requested Peace Corps programs but the Peace Corps, which operates on a shoestring budget of $332 million per year, lacks the budget to respond.
Doubling the Peace Corps budget would cost just over $1 for every American.
The September 6th MorePeaceCorps 100 House Parties aim to build support for a bigger, better, bolder Peace Corps. We selected this date to draw attention to the ServiceNation Conference taking place in New York City five days later on September 11th where both presidential candidates are expected to attend and address the issue of national service and greater resources to the Peace Corps.

Save The Date

Let the PARTY begin!!! The Executive Planning Committee for the 30th Year Reunion for Omnibus XIII has selected July 24 - 28 as the official reunion dates in San Diego. In the next few weeks I will send some hotel information in San Diego and Carlsbad for those who prefer to rent a hotel room. Once again, Jackie & I and also my mom, have plenty of room so just let us know if you will be staying with us. We have dates from Thursday - Monday in case families/couples want to see some of the San Diego sites and make this a bit more of a vacation. For our event we are thinking a catered BBQ on Friday night possibly at Roseanne's home with music, Saturday enjoy the pool & Jacuzzi at Jackie's and then have a dinner of catered pupusas with more music, pictures and fun. Sunday is still under consideration and to be announced at a later date. Jackie has a friend who is a DJ so if you have music you want to send in advance, he could put it together (like Jud).

San Diego (SAN) airport is the closest, those of you flying United might check out Palomar which flies into Carlsbad (CLD) that is very convenient for my house and my moms (only 4 miles away), and if you can get a smoking deal at John Wayne in Orange County (SNA)and will be renting a car that is only 1 hour to my home. A few options for travel schedules when searching for fares.

Happy Holiday's everyone, see you in 2008 and more information to follow.

Correction on e mail for Robert

Oops, got too excited about this new home run finding Robert. His e mail address is:
merideth@u.arizona.edu

Robert Merideth joins the reunion group

Well, yesterday was a landslide for our group. I did a Google Search using only "Peace Corps El Salvador" and on page 56 (I am not sure how many pages there would have been) I found a caption regarding Robert Meridith and environmental researcher, writer and editor. I clicked on to the link and voila!!! A picture of Robert and the mystery of "name the tall man with a beard in the back of our graduatoin picture". Mike Gibbons and I remember OK as his state of origin and Ted and Sandy told me WI - we are all right, he did his BS in OK and MS in WI. I was saying Tom for a number of months but after reading my journal this last week I saw that I walk to school amost every day with Brad and Bob (AKA Roberto).

Robert is living in Tucson, wrote to me last night that he is excited about the reunion and to put his name on the list of attendees. He can be reached at:

meridith@u.arizona.edu
His cell number is 520 979 1293
and address is:
820 E Lester Street, Tucson, AZ 85719

Have a great week everyone. Welcome to the group Robert. Roseanne

Joni Granard, Debbie Loff and Dave Holyoke

We have three new "hits" from letters and surfing the web.
David Holyoke is in Maryland with two grown daughters and can be reached at drholyk@comcast.net
Joni Granard is in Las Cruces, NM, e mail is not up right now but you can reach her at
1 505 521 8693 I spoke to her last weekend
Debbie Loff can be reached at lofflike@yahoo.com Diane found her a couple of weeks ago.

So now team, we have to find out Bob's last name so we can search for him and we still need to find: Maria Teresa Miron, Gay & Roy Fuller, Tom Burns, Tim Little, Emily Bramson, Margie Keith, AC Stone, Wendy Baugniet and it would be wonderful to find Mario Flores who we think is living in California.

I look forward to hearing from everyone. Any ideas of how we can find the others are welcome.

Greetings from Cleveland Ohio! Ted and Sandy McManamon
Pictures are then and now, 1977 and 2007, guess which is which? Ha ha....

My hubby Ted told me you guys were looking for us! Well we are alive and well, and have been wondering what ever happened to you all.... A reunion sounds like alot of fun! July 7th is special to us because it will be our 30th wedding anniversary. We would love to celebrate it with you, and hope we can fit it into our schedules. I have lots of fond memories, albeit hazy ones for some of you. We have stayed in touch with Steve Bernstein, who returned to El Salvador with his wife, working for AID...he was there for the major earthquakes a few years back, and had lots of stories to tell. His two children are adopted from El Sal. We even attended his wedding in Washington D.C. 8 or 10 years ago. Ted and I have continued to work as partners in biz as well as life. I taught a few years as home ec teacher in the early days, owned a store, worked as a sub or staffer at my church for a number of years. We both volunteer alot for our PTA and local communities. We have been blessed with the busyness of being parents, having a 10 year old still running around, doesn't allow us to slow down. I would love to hear about alot of your lives, I reconnected with RPCV some time ago, and might consider speaking to high schoolers about the experience. There is none like it that is for sure. Hope to hear from more of you. Anyone have addresses for Steve and Pat, and Roy and Gay? What about Bob from Wisconsin

Post from Roseanne

So now we have located Jud Piner and Rick Korducki, Diane called yesterday and she has an e mail or telephone number for Sandy McMannon. Great job Diane!! Thanks for all the effort. I suggest that we decide on a date and move forward, I have sent about 100 letter out and have only heard from Jud and Rick, so I may be at the end of the line for many others from the group. I would like to hear what dates would be good for others next summer. Ingrid was thinking late June or early July. Does that work? Roseanne
